There was a time when we used to get excited going to a post office or waiting for the postman for our telegraph. The world seems to have moved on. Our loving “Taar” will no more be seen and will be moved to archives. When I was born, my father was not in town. He was on his tour and there was no telephone system at our farm house near Nepal border where he had gone so my grand mother had sent him a telegram. Unfortunately, taar reached there while he was on his way back.
But the taar is still with us at home which mentioned that a boy is born. It may not seem important but for my parents, it is a significant piece of paper. And that is how I am attached to it.
Personally speaking, I still feel it shouldn’t be phased out completely. Just like we have old phones (Trring Trring wale) at our homes which are still usable, telegraphy should be preserved. Though, I agree BSNL cannot afford the system and Government as usual won’t help (Common sense) so its better to distribute the machinery to people or auction it so that we can keep it as a token of memories.
In the time when the world is advancing so fast, we do need something old fashioned, just to keep the spirit burning. Anyways! iOS, Android and BB is the new “Taar” and somewhere deep within we are happy with it. Original Taar will surely be missed. Its like the father left and now the sons are fighting over turf.
Just hoping that our lovable “Taar” is never forgotten. Rest in Peace.
